Menopause Pause on weight gain

Menopause does not mean a pause on Men nor on feeling good and looking good!

But you can feel a difference in the way your body works and is metabolising, with this a shift into some weight gain and sluggishness. Plus to compound it you can experience mood changes and slow down with depression. There is a form of grieving as this marks a major transition in life and a shift to older years....

It is important to get a GP check up and referral to a menopause clinic rather than struggle with symptoms.  Blood tests to rule out low thyroid function and diabetes....pelvic scans for bloating and breast clinics too - for a complete MOT check up. As now retired nurse and midwife I do still look back at practice and the health care as it is now. I do think a more integrated approach to clinics is vital as we are women with reproductive system, breasts and endocrine system that can all be affected by the menopause ... this should include looking at bone density and cardiac care too... and clinical psychology too.

But as you have seen in my blogs I like to define life as in seasons and the menopause means to me moving into your Autumn years... Like the change in leaves you can be radiant colourful and vibrant in this time.

Found this really good article for us to look at some useful health tips- source www.health.com/health

Slim downIf you’re overweight you can minimize menopausal symptoms and reduce the long-term risks of declining hormones by losing weight, says Mary Jane Minkin, MD, clinical professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences at Yale University School of Medicine, in New Haven, Conn.
Slimming down not only reduces the risks of heart disease and breast cancer, both of which go up after menopause, says Dr. Minkin, but new research shows that it may also help obese or overweight women cut down on hot flashes.
